Postpartum Herbal Drink Pack
A well-done confinement means a lifetime of wellbeing
As the saying goes: “Nourish before birth, care for yourself during confinement.” The physical exertion of labor and postpartum blood loss deplete a mother’s vital energy, leading to deficiency of qi and blood, yin and blood insufficiency, depletion of all meridians, and coexistence of deficiency and stagnation.
Failing to do confinement properly often leads to the aftereffects known as “Yue Nei Feng” (postpartum wind) — a range of ailments that arise from lack of care during confinement, such as dizziness, headaches, lower back pain, cold hands and feet, general weakness, and sensitivity to cold. Postpartum symptoms include incomplete discharge of lochia, night sweats, abdominal pain, constipation, insufficient breast milk, and postpartum depression. Chinese tradition holds that all these symptoms can be prevented and treated with herbal medicine, with reliably fast results.
Postpartum dietary support should follow a “phased” approach. Without the right method, indiscriminate over-supplementing can lead to excess weight gain and make it hard to regain your figure — it can also interfere with uterine contraction and the clearing of lochia. During this phase, “appropriate” is the guiding principle. Through phased nourishment, your body’s physiological functions gradually restore. Follow the principle of first clearing lochia, then replenishing qi and blood — proper nourishment avoids weight gain and helps you make the most of this golden opportunity to transform your constitution.
Gentle Replenishment
Week 1 dietary focus: clearing lochia, strengthening kidney detoxification function — centered on sesame oil pork liver. The postpartum constitution is one of “deficiency with stagnation” and is not suited to heavy supplementation. Instead, Week 1 focuses on promoting perspiration and helping the body eliminate excess fluids, enhancing metabolism. Take advantage of the Week 1 “postpartum diuretic period” to seize the golden window for postpartum weight loss!
Warming Nourishment
Week 2 dietary focus: preventing back and joint pain, continuing to support uterine contraction and clearing lochia — centered on sesame oil kidney, supplemented with Du Zhong herbal tonic. Uses bone- and sinew-strengthening foods to restore the joints and muscles loosened by pregnancy and childbirth.
Deep Replenishment
Weeks 3 & 4: most physiological functions have largely improved and lochia has mostly cleared — this is the optimal time for deep nourishment. The dietary focus shifts to addressing qi deficiency, building stamina, anti-aging, and replenishing vital energy. This stage centers on delicious and nourishing sesame oil chicken — flavorful chicken with rich, warming broth that warms the body from within.
A complete 30-day phased postpartum recovery is not just about supplementation — it allows you to repair damage, rebuild strength, and strengthen your constitution. With each birth, you grow healthier and more beautiful!
